Alpha Delta Pi

First Finest Forever

Our History

National History

Alpha Delta Pi Sorority was founded as the Adelphean Society on May 15, 1851 at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia.

Alpha Delta Pi holds the distinction of being the first secret society for women. We are founded on the principles of scholarship, leadership, service to others, and sisterhood.

In 1904 an expansion policy was adopted, with the group at Wesleyan College becoming Alpha Chapter of the Adelphean Society.  In 1905 the name of the group was amended to Alpha Delta Phi.  In order to avoid confusion with a men's organization of the same name, the name was changed in 1913 to Alpha Delta Pi.

To date, Alpha Delta Pi has initiated over 182,500 women into one of over 130 collegiate chapters in the United States and Canada
.

Chapter History

The local sorority TNT was installed as Gamma Nu Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi in 1949.

The Gamma Nu Chapter at William Jewell College is a proud contributer to Alpha Delta Pi's success with over 50 years of presence on William Jewell's campus. The sorority boasts many dedicated alumnae who serve as advisors in many facets to the chapter.

William Jewell "Tatler" yearbook publications in the middle half of the twentieth century list TNT's and ADPi's of the past as very active in Tatler Revue productions, drama, and various other activities.  Jewell's ADPi's are a group of women who pride themselves on their diversity, openness, and adherance to the values and beliefs of Alpha Delta Pi.

The chapter lived in a white frame house on Mississippi Street in Liberty for many years until Semple Hall was built. The chapter now occupies a wing in Semple Hall on William Jewell's campus.

There are many successful women that have come from Alpha Delta Pi, even Gamma Nu chapter. Two such women include the late Margaret Anne McDonald Bundy who served as International President of Alpha Delta Pi and Missouri Secretary of State, Robin Carnahan.
